The Southwest Allen County Fire Protection District was established in 1986 by the Allen County Commissioners. When originally established, the district consisted of all the non-incorporated areas of Lafayette, Pleasant, and Wayne Townships. In January 2024, Southwest Allen County Fire District expanded to provide coverage to Marion Township.
Today, the Southwest Allen County Fire District provides Fire-Rescue and Advanced Life Support EMS transport service to over 110 square miles of Allen County and serves portions of Wells County near the Town of Zanesville.
The Southwest Fire District protects some of the largest employers in Allen County, such as General Motors, Franklin Electric, Vera Bradley, General Mills, Amazon, Android Industries, Lippert Components, and Walmart's milk production facility.
The Southwest Fire District operates 20 front-line apparatus along with five ambulances. These vehicles respond from one of five fire stations located throughout the district.
Through the efforts of our full-time, part-time, volunteer, and live-in personnel, the fire district can quickly respond to approximately 2,000 incidents a year.
The Fire District also operates a modern fire training facilities in the region. Built-in 2002, our training facility provides live fire training and special operations training, such as confined space and high-angle rope rescue. Firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, and military personnel utilize our fire training facility each year.
